Specializing in the fabrication and installation of all natural stone, marble, granite and man made materials. The mansion is also a venue for the play The Manor, by Kathrine Bates, directed by Beverly Olevin, and produced by Theatre 40 of Beverly Hills, which takes place in various rooms. The audience is separated during the play to watch scenes in different orders. The Manor's plot is a fictionalized account of the Doheny family, including Doheny's involvement in the Teapot Dome scandal and his son's murder. It has been performed every year at Greystone Mansion since 2002, making it Los Angeles' longest-running play. Listed with Michelle Schwartz of The Agency, the unique architectural home ended up selling for $1,910,000 in March 2023.

Tirranna, one of legendary architect Frank Lloyd Wright’s last works sells for $6 million

It was originally built between 1961 and 1963 by famed architect John Lautner, who was one of Frank Lloyd Wright’s protegees. Made from poured-in-place concrete, steel, and wood, the 4500 square foot house has five bedrooms and four and a half bathrooms. It was a gift from oil tycoon Edward L. Doheny to his son, Edward "Ned" Doheny Jr. and his family. Following the purchase of the estate by the City of Beverly Hills in 1965, it became a city park in 1971, and was subsequently added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976 as Doheny Estate/Greystone. The house and grounds are often used as locations for film and television shows. The house's descending staircase is one of the most famous sets in Hollywood. Spanning 1,800 square feet, the posh property is complete with a chef’s kitchen, dining room for 10+, open living room, office/ flex space, and an outdoor sitting area perfect for an afternoon glass of wine or morning coffee. Recently listed in Los Angeles, California, this craftsman-style home lives up to the archetype.

The seventeen homes — also referred to as the Stone-Fisher Speculative Houses — were originally designed by legendary architect Richard Neutra for the Stone-Fisher development company. And not just any house, but one of 17 unique homes designed by legendary architect Richard Neutra propped up over the side of the Beverly Glen Canyon. Years in the making, it features an 85 foot infinity-edged cantilevered concrete foot lap pool. This is in addition to an original pool in the main house which was completed in 1959. Like many of the rooms, the bedroom is not directly connected to the rest of the house through the indoors. The home features one-of-a-kind outdoor hallways, decorated by the sky and a myriad of vegetation.

Living Room

There’s also an outdoor catering kitchen, a fine dining area, as well as an outdoor media room. Spencer and his business partner Michael Heller currently consult officially with the iconic home, managing the space for high-end brand activations, organizing exclusive events and photoshoots. In 1965, it became the headquarters for the Historical Society of Southern California and the house was opened to the public. By 2014, the city was concerned that visiting hours were too limited and that the historical group was not truly focused on a partnership with the Parks and Recreation Department.

The extra space is accessible via the backyard and includes a living room/kitchen area, plus a separate bedroom suite with laundry. It’s perfect for hosting family or friends, or it could be used as a well-appointed office instead. The Greystone Mansion, also known as the Doheny Mansion, is a Tudor Revival mansion on a landscaped estate with distinctive formal English gardens, located in Trousdale Estates of Beverly Hills, California, United States. Architect Gordon Kaufmann designed the residence and ancillary structures, and construction was completed in 1928.

It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976, as Doheny Estate/Greystone. Last but not least, Greystone Mansion has been featured in commercials and even music videos. You might have already toured the house alongside Robert Downey Jr., in the music video for Elton John’s single I Want Love, whom we get to see wandering about inside the Greystone mansion, lip-syncing the words to the song.

In the rear, the original stone facade joins the shingle-clad addition. Another view of the living area reveals a bay of windows along one wall. Century-old wood trim runs throughout the main level, complementing the original oak flooring. Following her star turn in the steamy thriller Basic Instinct in 1992, the Golden Globe winner, 60, found her previous house, a modest place with little security, wasn’t quite equipped to ward off her most enthusiastic fans.

On the opposite side of the living room, a formal dining space features built-in cabinetry. A gated driveway is tucked off to the side of the creamy stucco and terracotta-roof structure, which is fronted by a brick walkway that passes through a grassy lawn before emptying out at a sage-green door that opens into the original tiled courtyard. Once inside, an entry foyer displaying a curving iron-railed staircase steps down to a light-filled living room adorned with a fireplace, built-in shelving and French doors leading outside. Records show Stone—who maintains a permanent residence in the Texas city of Austin—has stuck a nearly $4 million price tag on a relatively humble yet charming Spanish-style bungalow in the Comstock Hills area of Westwood that was long occupied by her mother. Not only did Emma Stone just garner a Golden Globe win for her performance in the movie Poor Things, but the A-list actress also has decided to lighten her Los Angeles property portfolio. Greystone Mansion also included a servant’s quarters that took up two entire floors on the east wing and was built to accommodate a live-in staff of 15.

In 2016, Goldstein announced that the home would be donated to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) upon his death. The donation includes almost everything in the house including the furniture and art. It is one of the most culturally and architecturally important homes in the area. Luckily, the new house she found in a pinch ended up being the perfect place for the actress to grow her career, her family — sons Roan, 17, Laird, 12, and Quinn, 11 — and her love for interior design. Further inside is an eclectic living room with a modern-style fireplace, a colorful beamed ceiling, and built-in shelving. The Sheats-Goldstein mansion has some of the best views in Los Angeles from Downtown facing east all the way to Century City and even to the ocean.

Ned Doheny’s house became known as Greystone because it was built mainly out of stone, and has a grey, stone-cold appearance. The house took roughly three years to build, and included stables, kennels, tennis courts, a gatehouse, a swimming pool and pavilion, a lake with babbling brooks and waterfalls, and even a fire station. The 55-room, 46,000-square-foot mansion lies on a 16-acre site within Trousdale Estates —  a neighborhood of Beverly Hills, California located in the foothills of the Santa Monica mountains.

The Lummis House is operated by the city of Los Angeles as a historic house museum. The exterior of the house is built of river rock and originally contained a stone tower, but that was later demolished. The interior contains some of Lummis's collection of artifacts, as well as copies of many of his books. The Oscar-nominated actor oversaw plenty of changes during his stay, slowly transforming the once-Mediterranean-style compound into a more contemporary estate. He touched up the living spaces with steel-framed windows and doors, added an art studio in the eight-car garage and also tapped mega-mansion master Richard Landry to build a guesthouse.

Charles Lummis bought the property for the house in the late 1800s, after which he started a 13-year process of building the stone structure that currently sits there. Lummis became famous when he accepted the job at the LA Times and proceeded to walk to LA from his previous job in Cincinnati. In addition to numerous events that take place there, the mansion plays host each year to Catskills West, a theater arts and drama camp run by Beverly Hills Parks and Recreation, from mid-June to early August. Exuding world-renowned architecture lineage, the property features remarkable upgrades as dreamed up by Goldstein who has lived in the unique home for two decades. After being tastefully modernized by its previous owner, acclaimed architect Donald M. Goldstein, the Platform House at 3707 Oakfield Drive in Sherman Oaks offered buyers a unique taste of Los Angeles history. While they look like typical mid-century modern houses from the street side, the Platform Houses are all supported by tall, narrow metal posts and offer stunning views across Beverly Glen Canyon and beyond.

Aside from her for-sale Westwood house and Texas mansion, Stone also maintains a posh New York City apartment. Though that’s around $1.7 million more than she paid for the place almost five years ago, back in spring 2019, Stone did extensively renovate the premises during her ownership. According to The Wall Street Journal, which first reported the listing, she expanded the kitchen, and added a one-bedroom guesthouse with its own kitchen and living room.

The London native owns a handful of homes in Southern California including two in the Beverly Hills Post Office area. Stallone had been shopping it around for more than a year, first listing it in January 2021. It’s a bittersweet sale for Sylvester Stallone, who just unloaded his Beverly Park mega-mansion for $58 million. That’s Southern California’s priciest sale so far this year, but it’s 47% shy of his original price tag of $110 million. The listing is held by Eric Lavey of Sotheby’s International Realty–Beverly Hills Brokerage.

The landmarked property—originally built in 1892 for a professor who taught at Occidental College—comes with a facade made of riverbed stone and an interior filled with original woodwork. Both the structure and a streetside retaining wall were designated Cultural Monument #373 by the City of Los Angeles in 1988. Lummis purchased the three-acre lot (1.2 ha) sometime between 1895 and 1897 and named it "El Alisal" in tribute to the thicket of alder and sycamore trees that grew in the arroyo. The exhibition hall has a concrete floor so that after a party that might include artists, writers and musicians, it could easily be cleaned with a bucket of water.

Some of the home’s notable renovations include pyramid skylights, raised ceiling and roof lines, 300+ bottle wine cellar, Roman soaking tub, and solar panels. There’s a grand hall with distinctive, black-and-white marble floors and a very famous staircase. In fact, the staircase at Greystone Mansion has been featured in numerous productions, due to its majestic appearance. Greystone Mansion is a remarkable feat of architecture, and most of its original features have been carefully preserved over the years. Greystone Mansion houses the Beverly Hills Flower & Garden Festival, the yearly Catskills West drama camp, and The Annual Hollywood Ball, among others. The mansion has also made appearances in TV series, including Alias and The Young and the Restless, and it also played the part of Chilton Academy in Gilmore Girls. Following Ned Doheny’s death, his wife Lucy remarried and lived in the house with her children until 1955. Greystone Mansion was later sold to Paul Trousdale, the developer of Trousdale Estates, who then sold it to Henry Crown of Chicago. Doheny was killed by his own gun, and he was not buried with the rest of his family, but in a different cemetery, just a few yards away from where Plunkett was laid to rest. This has led some to believe that Doheny might have committed suicide, however, this is just a theory that certainly adds a bit of mystery to Greystone Mansion. I enjoyed visiting this spot as it had a lot of history I knew nothing about, and it was really well preserved. If you are heading through the area, then you should add it to your list to visit if it is open. Also, be sure to go to Galco’s Old World Grocery and the Southwest Museum while there. If it is open, you can also head into the bedroom that has a unique fireplace with small heads along the top of it. But after disagreements between Neutra and the developer, the legendary Austrian-American architect withdrew from the project and the houses were completed by architect William S. Beckett.

In Goldmember, Austin Powers’ graduation from the ‘British Intelligence Academy, 1958’ takes place at the Greystone Mansion. And while this popular flick mostly shows us the building’s exterior, it’s 2002’s Spider Man starring Tobey Maguire that gives us a tour inside the mansion — where the indoor scenes of Norman Osborn’s Gothic mansion were filmed. The businessman never actually lived in the house, but leased it out to film studios — and that’s how Greystone’s prolific movie career started.

The buyer’s identity was never disclosed, but we hope they’re an architecture lover with a deep appreciation for Richard Neutra’s work — and hopefully, no fear of heights. Listed at $2.05 million, the 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom home has the bones of the original Neutra design but features high-end modern finishes. Originally designed by Richard Neutra, one of the most prominent modernist architects, the Platform Homes of Sherman Oaks were completed between 1962 and 1966. And one of these iconic seventeen stilt homes was listed for sale in 2022 asking $2.05 million (it later sold in March 2023 for $1,910,000, but more on that in a minute). The unique homes — that jut out above the steep slope of the valley below — are located on Oakfield Drive in Sherman Oaks, and are most commonly known as Neutra’s Platform Houses. Take a closer look at one of Richard Neutra's architecturally distinct stilt houses in Sherman Oaks, Los Angeles, meticulously renovated by its previous owner.

Stone's home has a sunny disposition, thanks to its Spanish-style tiled roof and sage green accents throughout. Read on for an intimate look at Stone's picturesque-yet-personable pad, which is listed with Eric Lavey of Sotheby’s International Realty's Beverly Hills brokerage. Heading to the next room, you will be in the kitchen, which has a lot of old plates and other antiques from the house. It really does have beautiful craftsmanship, and it is great to see it still standing.

It’s a historic house that’s been used in endless Hollywood movies, TV series, and music videos. After you finish reading this article, you might just realize that you’ve seen this house before, too. Well, now you will also know its history, and when you see it again on your TV screen (and more than likely, you will), you’ll recognize it. The schedule of activations and parties will appeal to football fans and architecture aficionados alike (along with top-level executives and celebrities) who may be priced out of the tickets to the game itself.

David instead meets with Annabelle, who had faked her death using a hanging harness and sedatives. Secretly lovers, the two of them have orchestrated the various mishaps to manipulate Nora into killing Frederick. Nora, seeing Frederick enter the basement with a gun in his hand, does indeed shoot him. After she flees, David slips in to dispose of Frederick's body in the vat of acid, and the lights go out.

Letterboxd — Your life in film

He promises to give each guest $10,000 with the stipulation that they stay the entire night in the house after the doors are locked at midnight, all the windows are barred, and there are no phones or radios to use. The guests are test pilot Lance Schroeder, newspaper columnist Ruth Bridges, psychiatrist Dr. David Trent, who specializes in hysteria, Nora Manning, who works for one of Loren's companies, and the house's owner, Watson Pritchard. All are strangers to both the Lorens and each other, their only commonality being their lust for money. Millionaire Frederick Loren throws a haunted house party for his wife Annabelle.

Production

Among these were buzzers hidden beneath moviegoers’ seats and a countdown clock reporting the time that remained for viewers to exit the theatre before viewing the frightening climax of the film. Castle’s gimmick for House on Haunted Hill was “Emergo,” a fake skeleton that flew over the audience on a wire at a key moment during the film, engendering as many laughs from the audience as screams of fright. The black and white cinematography adds to the films overall theme. As the individuals are stuck in the house, spider webs, creepy shadows and ghosts are depicted in various scenes throughout the film. It should also be noted that the film features the outside of the Ennis House, built by Frank Lloyd Wright located in Los Angeles, California and built in 1924.

Assistant Director

It is a reminder of how proper and correct people acted and spoke with one another even under trying times. The quintessential haunted house film, this offering will appeal to fans of William Castle—master of horror gimmicks. Worth noting in particular are the creepy gags featured in House on Haunted Hill, which, though laughable by today’s standards, may affect those of a frail or sensitive disposition. The five guests all arrive in separate funeral cars with a hearse leading, which he explains may be empty now, but they may be in need of it later. He explains the rules of the party and gives each of the guests a .45 caliber pistol for protection. Castle claimed that he named the skelton and the complicated wiring necessary for its appearance "Emergo." In 1999 Warner Bros. remade House on Haunted Hill, starring Geoffrey Rush and Famke Janssen, directed by William Malone.

Assorted terrors haunt the guests at every turn, including ghosts, a severed head, and Annabelle’s (later revealed to be faked) death. Though her plot finally comes to fruition and Loren is “shot” by one of the guests, the gun proves to have been loaded with blanks. Trent attempts to dispose of what he thinks is Loren’s corpse, but he is pushed into a vat of acid by Loren.

Nora is chased from her room into the basement by Annabelle's ghost. Aroused by the ghostly sounds, David concludes that the killer is about and proposes he and Frederick split up to search the house. Lance uncovers a secret room at the end of the second-floor hall, but the door shuts behind him once he enters, trapping him.

After hearing the sound of the gunshot, Annabelle enters to confirm that her plan to kill her husband has come to fruition. Suddenly, a skeleton emerges from the acid accompanied by Frederick's voice. In this panic, the screaming Annabelle accidentally backs into the acid herself. The real Frederick walks out of the shadows, holding the contraption that he was using to control the skeleton. Eventually it is revealed that Annabelle faked her death in league with one of the guests, Dr. Trent (Alan Marshal).

And for that reason, the most important part of this film is casting. Just when everyone thinks the trauma is finally over Watson Pritchard looks into the acid and asserts that Annabelle and Dr. Trent have now joined the ranks of house's ghosts. Then, with a terrified expression on his face, he announces that the ghosts are now coming for him, "and then they'll come for you."

Movie Editing

When a I saw this movie for the first time, four years ago, i felt real terror. For my surprise, I decided to make my students watch this film during some of my classes(they are teenagers) and, despite the fact the film is black and white and old, they enjoyed it . They cried a lot and some of my students said this is the most  terrifying movie they ever seen. Ifind it very hard to recommend this film, despite there being a lotof positive things to say about it.

As mentioned, many of the props are something you would see in your second-grade science class, but nevertheless the film incorporates some classic horror elements which was refreshing to see. Overall, House on Haunted Hill is a fun and entertaining film that is a must see for any horror fan. Nora tells the other guests that she's shot Loren in the wine cellar, and they all rush down there. When they arrive, they see that he's actually alive, and he tells Nora that the gun she had fired at him had been loaded only with blanks.

Vincent Price played Frederick Loren, an eccentric millionaire who rents a reportedly haunted mansion for one night under the pretense of hosting a party for his wife, Annabelle, whom he believes to be after his fortune. He explains to his guests that any among them who survives in the house for one night—during which all communication with the outside world will be cut—will receive a prize of $10,000. Each is presented with a pistol in order to fend off the house’s ghosts. Annabelle warns the guests that she fears Loren means her harm and meanwhile plots with her lover, Dr. Trent, to trick one of the guests into shooting him.

For a back and white film, there were certainly some shrieks in this flick. The scene with Annabelle hanging from a rope is one of the most iconic scenes in this film. The dead corpse hanging from a ceiling was not something cinema was accustomed to. In addition, the film incorporated shadow work and creepy environments that added to the overall eerie dimensions of the film.

Ostensibly a murder mystery film, this production leaves ambiguous whether supernatural elements truly exist within the eponymous house—much in contrast to the 1999 remake, which removes the ominous air of uncertainty from Castle’s original story. House on Haunted Hill (1959) is an iconic horror film that was an original and catchy horror film. The film was later remade in a more modern 1999 film with the same time. However, the film during the 1999 version had a darker, more paranormal vibe then its 1959 predecessor. Both films have their pros and cons but for now we will focus on the 1959 version.

She told Refinery29 that the "irregular French" and the crescent style applied elsewhere on the nail (rather than just the tip) is the way to switch things up. She suggested using a fine, long-haired brush to create the look and then to seal it all up with a top coat. This mod look comes at the hands of Camenforte, who recommends some very specific prep. "Before you work on the design, wipe down the surface of each nail with alcohol to get rid of the [base polish's] tacky layer," she advises. "Drawing on a more matte surface keeps the design crisp and prevents bleed out." When you look up summery outfits, you’ll likely come across this cute dress, which is an excellent choice for this look.

If you like to keep your nails short, you can still pull off this floral nail art with elan. For those who prefer subtle additions you have to lean in to admire, these nails on Instagram are perfect. Not showy or in your face, manicures with tiny designs and accents allow you to be expressive while keeping your nails simple. This look can be copied with a lot of patience and brush skill — or with some tiny stickers, such as the ones recommended by Byrdie. Either way, choosing a small design to accent your nails will have people curiously leaning in to get a peek at your mani. One of the best parts about acrylics is that you can achieve things that would be impossible with natural nails.

You don't have to wear these rainbow acrylics during Pride month to show off your spirit. This monochrome chocolate brown ombré design creates a bit of an optical illusion. Coordinate your tortoiseshell French tips with your favorite accessories for a chic matching moment.

As noted by Glamour, velvet nails — where the tip of the nail is used as a canvas of sorts — are taking over social media. Some people have taken the theme of velvet seriously and have added glittery polish to their nail tips that creates a texture and movement. Others have added design elements to the tips of their nails (keeping that velvet/glitter look, mind you) to create a daring look.

So, to make this look yourself, choose a neutral base — like white or nude — and then go in with a fine brush to create the dots. Better yet, get a dotting tool yourself, and you'll never need to go to the nail salon again. To achieve this without the help of a pro, paint your nails whatever colors you like, making sure to add an abstract element to your middle two fingers. You can do any shape or design you like, but a dotting tool and a fine-line brush will definitely help. The flowers can also be done with a dotting tool — just don't forget to let your nails dry completely before painting them on. This special gold foil French tip design on a rose-colored base coat certainly hits all the right notes when it comes to elegance, class, and eye-catching appeal.

Polishing (optional)

Both Beyoncé and Hailey Bieber have recently worn cherry red French nails, formally ditching the more obvious white polish shade choice. Margot Robbie, on the other hand, painted her tips a Barbiecore hot pink. Ice Spice brought her Y2K-loving Gen Z approach to the French tip obsession, painting chocolate milk-colored lacquer on duck-shaped nails. Nails that look great don't have to just be for vanity, and if Edwards has proven anything with her design, it's that nails can go far beyond just looking good in 2021. Different uses of negative space and black nail polish can create gorgeous, dynamic looks. And using black nail polish does not have to mean all doom and gloom.

This unique and minimalist design blends natural tones for a chic, modern look. These stiletto nails are all about edgy chic with their soft neutral base and piercing neon yellow-green French tip. One accent nail is adorned with sparkling glitter, adding a touch of glamour to this sharp and modern French tip nail design. Gorgeous gorgeous girls sure as hell love wearing glitter, which is why you should take some pointers from nail artist Jamie Didlock.

The gorgeous palm trees seen above were surely achieved by spraying over a stencil cutout, and the ombre color scheme is also one thing well-suited to airbrushed nail art. Having some escapist art on your nails may help keep your mood lifted, as you can always glance down at your nails between zoom meetings. It's no wonder that this year people were often opting for bright, expressive nail designs rather than the typical and basic. These nails are sleek and modern with their soft pink base and gold-trimmed angular white tips. The elegant metallic detail adds a touch of luxury and sophistication to the classic French manicure. As far as nail designs go, we all have done the French manicure.

A prequalification estimates how much house you can afford, while a preapproval verifies your financial information for a loan.

Compare mortgage rates for different loan types

This can help the borrower pay off their mortgage loan sooner and reduces the total amount of interest paid over the life of the loan. The monthly mortgage payment on a $300,000 house would likely be around $1,980 at current market rates. That estimate assumes a 6.9% interest rate and at least a 20% down payment, but your monthly payment will vary depending on your exact interest rate and down payment amount. Use Bankrate's mortgage calculators to compare mortgage payments, home equity loans and ARM loans. Adding different information to the mortgage calculator will show you how your monthly payment changes. Feel free to try out different down payment amounts, loan terms, interest rates and so on to see your options.

As of 2022, California’s average property tax rate is 0.73% with an average tax of $1,850. Keep in mind that your actual taxes will vary based on your home value and location. Areas with higher home values will typically pay higher property taxes compared to areas with lower home values. Property tax rates will also depend on your county—for example, as of 2022, Marin County collects the highest tax rate in California while Modoc County has the lowest. You might need an annual salary of $120,000 or more to qualify for a $400, year mortgage. This is just a rough estimate — the amount you'll qualify for will depend on your current debt load and your estimated taxes and insurance in addition to your income.

Strikes tend to mean services on lines where members are participating are extremely affected or cancelled entirely, whereas overtime bans often lead to reduced services. They borrow from financial markets and often these transactions are made using Sterling Overnight Index Average (SONIA) swap rates, which can move around. Many forecasts expect rates to fall this year now that inflation has been coming down. But recently, data has been somewhat sticky, so we may need to wait a bit longer for rates to go down.

Monthly Payment Calculation

Depending on the type of home loan you want, the home value, mortgage balance, down payment and cash amount may factor into your LTV. Mortgage calculators can be used for many different types of mortgages, including government-backed loans or adjustable-rate mortgages. Just be sure to account for any additional costs the calculator doesn't include (like FHA mortgage insurance, for example). A mortgage calculator can give you an estimate of how much you might pay each month for a mortgage based on the home price, the size of your down payment, the loan term length, and your interest rate. The free Business Insider mortgage calculator shows how much you'll pay each month based on your home price, down payment, term length, and mortgage rate. We also provide customized tips on how to save money on your mortgage.

The home affordability calculator provides you with an appropriate price range based on your input. Most importantly, it takes into account all of your monthly obligations to determine if a home could be comfortably within financial reach. That’s a big deal, because mortgages backed by the Department of Veterans Affairs typically don’t require a down payment.

You'll also get some tips on exactly how you can save on interest. Simply enter your email to get monthly content that’ll help you navigate the market with confidence. A buyer’s agent can guide you through the process of finding a home, negotiating the contract, and closing on your new place. That’s because, in most cases, the seller pays the agent’s commission.

Aslef rejected a two-year offer of 4% in 2022 and another 4% this year, saying this was way below inflation, and was linked to changes in terms and conditions. Overtime bans, an action short of a strike, means some services may not be running or may be reduced as drivers refuse to work their rest days. When they go up, so do the rates being offered on the high street, as we have seen in the last week or two amid uncertainty over whether forecasts for a summer base rate cut are accurate. Despite these challenges, refinancing can benefit borrowers, but they should weigh the comparison carefully and read any new agreement thoroughly. Open a savings account or open a Certificate of Deposit (see interest rates) and start saving your money. Fees due in exchange for being part of a homeowner’s association.

This formula can help you crunch the numbers to see how much house you can afford. Alternatively, you can use this mortgage calculator to help determine your budget. In addition, the calculator allows you to input extra payments (under the “Amortization” tab). This can help you decide whether to prepay your mortgage and by how much. When a loan exceeds a certain amount (the conforming loan limit), it's not insured by the Federal government.

The NerdWallet Home Affordability Calculator takes that major advantage into account when computing your personalized affordability factors. Loans backed by the FHA can also have more relaxed qualifying standards — something to consider if you have a lower credit score. If you want to explore an FHA loan further, use our FHA mortgage calculator for more details. To calculate how much house you can afford, we’ve made the assumption that with at least a 20% down payment, you might be best served with a conventional loan.

It's simple, easy, and effective, but it is, by no means, tired. As noted by The Zoe Report, the "cuticle moon" design is a huge trend for 2021, and with its sleek look, it's easy to see why. It's a really easy way to do something different, and with endless color combinations, you can keep this design rotating throughout the year.

Angled Hot Pink Lines

Having nails that are each separate in style is a fashion risk, but this year people were jumping on the trend and nailing it. It's important not to cluster super similar styles or colors together. As you can see, this set spaces out the different colors so that they each pop. These sweater nails keep all the fun relegated to the tip, but instead of a standard French manicure, it's a cozy take on the trend. Recreate the look with nail stickers in a color that matches whatever you choose for your tip. We're off to the races with this nail design, which looks as if you dipped each finger into a different shade of the checkerboard flag found at finish lines.

Nude and Floral French Tip Nails

This year, we saw many more choosing designs with initials and messages, hand-painted or stamped onto nails. These are a great way to express yourself, particularly if you have a short message to convey or want to wear your initials or those of a loved one. Stylized letters can elevate an otherwise simple manicure with a monogram.

They certainly match well with the model’s sweater and are guaranteed to brighten any cold moments. On the other hand, glossy nail polish offers more color options and adds sparkle to your outfit. You can also try a look that’s halfway between matte and glossy or add a metallic touch to keep things interesting and eye-popping. ‎House on Haunted Hill 1959 directed by William Castle Reviews, film + cast

house on haunted hill 1959 cast

Keep in mind, 1959 props were much more limited than they are today, so unfortunately you will see some corny skeletons. House on Haunted Hill is one of the films of the great William Castle. William Castle was a filmmaker who conceived his films in a spirit of entrepreneurial hucksterism not unakin to that of a P.T. Castle conducted stunts like taking out insurance policies in case audiences died of fright – Macabre (1958), or wiring theatre seats up with electric shock buzzers to jolt audiences at appropriate moments – The Tingler (1959). The great gimmick in House on Haunted Hill was having a skeleton winched across the theatre on a wire at the point in the film when a skeleton appears to rise from an acid pool and pursue the heroine.

Director

The color version was released on DVD the same year by 20th Century Fox. Extras prepared by Legend Films for the Fox DVD release included an audio commentary track by comedian Michael J. Nelson of Mystery Science Theater 3000, two versions of the trailer, and a slideshow of images from the film's original press book. William Castle lacked any style as a director and his pace is slow and pedestrian – his films invariably belied the threat of scaring people to death that he constantly promised to do. Nevertheless, the luridness of Castle’s pop-up effects and some effective plot twists on behalf of frequent Castle collaborator Robb White make the film an undeniably entertaining carnival show. Vincent Price and Carol Ohmart play off one another with a marvellously glacial dislike.

When Lance and Nora remain behind to further explore the basement, Lance is locked in an empty room and struck on the head, while a menacing ghost confronts Nora. Anyone who stays in the house for the entire night, given that they are still alive, will each receive $10,000. Frederick Loren, an eccentric millionaire, invites five people to a party he is throwing for his fourth wife, Annabelle, in an allegedly haunted house he has rented.

Film Details

Frederick is convinced Annabelle tried to poison him to acquire his wealth, which Annabelle somewhat evasively denies, attributing his suspicions to paranoia and jealousy. Watson believes the house is genuinely haunted by the ghosts of those murdered there, including his own brother; he claims to have spent one night there before and "was almost dead" when found the next morning. He gives a tour of the house, including a vat of acid in the basement, which a previous resident used to kill his wife.

Almost as frightened as Nora is Watson Pritchard (Elisha Cook), the house's owner and another of the party's guests. He is fully convinced that the house is genuinely haunted by the ghosts of those killed there in the past, and that those ghosts have the power to "come for" and kill anyone in the house that they wish. The Samuel Freeman House in Los Angeles, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and built in 1924, and now listed on the National Historic Register, was used for the exterior shots of the haunted house during the film's opening sequence. Lorimar Productions released the film on VHS cassette on CBS/Fox Video's Key Video in October 1985. Two major studios have released it on home video in remastered versions. Warner Home Video released the film on DVD as a tie-in to the release of the 1999 remake.

However, despite the overall appearance and fun flow of the film, the veryheart of House on Haunted Hill is its character. People, more thananything else, are the lifeblood of House on Haunted Hill, so muchthat beyond the interpersonal intricacies, there's not much else tosay. Most of the ghostly activity can be explained by backstabbingand double-crossing, and most of the suspense is driven by humansuspicion and fear rather than spooks and gore.

Overall, it lends justenough credence to the spooky happenings, tempering theridiculousness and making the whole film easier to swallow. The film was given a worthwhile big-budget remake as House on Haunted Hill (1999). This in turn produced a direct-to-dvd sequel with Return to House on Haunted Hill (2007). Campy by modern standards but spooky and atmospheric, House on Haunted Hill is a fun, well-executed cult classic featuring a memorable performance from genre icon Vincent Price. I'm old enough to have first seen this in a theater--sans Emergo, dammit. Castle gives us one 360 degree shot around the house's main room which is silent. As with the new Paranornal Activity, your eye shoots back and forth trying to pinpoint the spot at which something is going to happen.

Suddenly, people start disappearing or getting hurt and each person suspect each other as to who is behind these horrific acts. The story continues as the mysteries begin to unfold in this haunted tale. Producer and director Castle was known for adding extra “special effects” to his B-film productions.

Having encountered further apparitions, Nora decides against staying the night, but the caretakers lock the doors five minutes early, taking that option out of the guests' hands. House on Haunted Hill is a campy, scary, and entertaining effort from the director of 13 Ghosts and The Tingler. Horror buffs young and old will therefore enjoy this film, silly gimmicks and dated special effects notwithstanding.

Exterior shots of the house were filmed at the historic Ennis House in Los Feliz, California. Film used Emergo, a gimmick in which an illuminated skeleton, mounted on two wires, floates over the audience during the climax of the film. Johnny Legend released a 50th anniversary DVD containing many extras such as both the original theatrical trailer and TV spots plus several William Castle and Vincent Price theatrical trailers, a Carol Ohmart profile and "golden age" TV shows starring Vincent Price. The 1999 film was released to negative reviews but was a box office success, while the 2007 sequel was direct-to-video and widely panned. The poster for the film included an illustration of a house in yet a third style, that of a fanciful four-story Romanesque structure. Frederick Loren has invited five strangers to a party of a lifetime. I first saw this movie when I was in grade school and loved it (though even back then I was a bit surprised by how fake the witch looked). Watching it again this summer, however, left me pretty disappointed.
